Chelmsford Women’s Aid is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
The organisation was set up in 1976 by a group of volunteers led by our Patron Joan Bliss, MBE who was the founder member of the charity and remained Chair of the organisation until her retirement in 2007.
Our aim
Our aim is to support women and children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence, encouraging them to develop skills, gain confidence and enable them to exercise their own power and to use all available opportunities and choices to successfully move on in their lives.
Our objectives
- Provide temporary refuge for women and their children who are subject to domestic violence.
- Support women and their children who are subject to domestic violence by helping them to access advice, benefits and services.
- Enable women and their children who are subject to domestic violence to find move-on accommodation and to support their integration into the community.
- Provide opportunities for self development and growth for women who are subject to domestic violence and their children.
- Raise awareness of domestic violence both in other agencies and the wider community and to influence policy and practice at every level.
